My popopop

Mel Landow zl" was my beloved grandfather.  We spent Sundays together playing tennis and watching football, spoke about our dreams to change the world, and became best friends.  My grandfather left a special example, in that when he was not even religious and had no children who needed a Jewish School, he donated a multi million dollar gift to what became the Landow Yeshiva.  In 1965 such a gift was unheard of, and the impact is truly unbelievable. My involvement in The Jewish Academy is primarliy as a result of the important lesson he tuaght me that every Jewish child is a diamond and deserves a Jewish Education.  This scholarship fund was created in his memory and to carry on his special legacy!

Mel Landow was one of Miami Beach's biggest philanthropists in the early 60' and 70's.  He was fortunate to meet Rabbi Sholom Lipskar while playing tennis at Falmingo Park, and they forged a true friendship.  Rabbi Lipskar brought my grandfather to meet with the Lubavitcher Rebbi.  The Rebbi asked my grandfather how he was doing, to wchich he responded that Baruch Hashem family business and health are all great!  He asked the Rebbi how are you doing, to which the Rebbi responded, that he was not doing well.  He continued that there are children who want to study Torah in Miami, yet the only Yeshiva is about to close.  The purpose of two Jews getting together is to help the third Jew. My grandfather went on to save the Landow Yeshiva, and he had the largest collection of letters from the Rebbi of any student.
